With the in-person version of San Diego Comic-Con on pause yet again, SDCC arrives online again for a second Comic-Con @Home, which runs from Friday to Sunday, July 23-25, with a few early offerings on Wednesday and Thursday, July 21-22.
We’ve scoured the program looking for old friends — Hello, Her Universe fashion show at 6 p.m. Friday. It’s also fun to make new discoveries, such as the promising Greatest Geek Year Ever: 1981 Week — Why’d It Have to be Snakes Edition at 4 p.m. Friday.
Friday highlights
HBO Max & Cartoon Network Studios: Adventure Time: Distant Lands, noon: “Adventure Time” creator Pendleton Ward and executive producer Adam Muto, as well as voice actors including John DiMaggio talk about the recent “Together Again” special and the new “Adventure Time: Distant Lands — Wizard City,” for which a sneak peek will be shown.
The Incredible Impact of Dungeons & Dragons on Culture and Entertainment, noon: Actress and game master Deborah Ann Woll (“Daredevil,’ “True Blood”), writer Andrew Crosby of “Hellboy,” and Luke Gygax, adventure game author and son of the co-creator of D&D talk about the ways the iconic role-playing game has impacted culture and entertainment.
Batman: Fear State, 1 p.m.: Gotham group editor Ben Abernathy hosts a panel of Batman writers and artists including John Ridley and Mariko Tamaki about what’s ahead for the Dark Knight in “Batman: Fear State.”
Stan Lee, Marvel, and Rolling Stone: 50th Anniversary, 1 p.m.: The Hulk appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine on Sept. 16, 1971 and inside was a piece by former Stan Lee assistant Robin Green on the maestro and Marvel. Green, who went on to a career as a writer-producer for TV series such as “The Sopranos,” will appear to talk about the story and its impact with other longtime Marvel writers, artists and Roy Thomas, the first editor-in-chief after Lee.
Netflix Geeked: Fear Street Trilogy, 4 p.m.: The new Netflix horror trilogy gets the panel treatment with “Fear Street” director Leigh Janiak, cast members Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., as well as R.L. Stine, the author behind the whole thing.
Saturday highlights
Simpsons season 33 and Beyond! 11 a.m.: Animators and writers of “The Simpson” join surprise guests for a panel hosted by Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson on what’s next for the long-running series.
Robert Kirkman @ Home, noon: Robert Kirkman, creator of “The Walking Dead” and other comics, answers questions from fans about the comics and film and TV adaptations.
‘Walking Dead’ series panels, various: Saturday also sees three separate panels on “Fear The Walking Dead” (1 p.m.), “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” (2 p.m.) and “The Walking Dead” (3 p.m.) Each will feature cast members, writers and producers.
Ray Harryhausen: Celebrating the Legacy of a Titan, 2 p.m.: The legendary stop-motion animator left an archive of 50,000 items from throughout his career including models and artwork from classic films such as “Jason and the Argonauts” and “Clash of the Titans.” Representatives of The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation which oversees the collection will share photographs and stories about the collection, its restoration and future plans.
Drawing the Lines of Terror with Junji Ito, 3 p.m.: Japanese horror manga creator Junji Ito will draw and talk about his latest work and fans will have a chance to win this one-of-a-kind drawing.
First You March, Then You Run: Celebrating Congressman John Lewis’ Legacy, 4 p.m.: The late congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis‘s posthumous work as a graphic novelist continues with “Run: Book One,” for which co-author Andrew Aydin and co-illustrator L. Fury will talk about the follow-up to Lewis’s “March.”
Ray Bradbury & the World of Comics, 6 p.m.: Orty Ortwein of the Ray Bradbury Experience Museum shares stories about Bradbury’s life-long love of comics, from the “Flash Gordon” scrapbooks he kept as a boy to his later work for EC Comics.
Sunday highlights
Doctor Who, 10 a.m.: The long-running British sci-fi series makes a virtual appearance with star Jodie Whittaker, the 13th Doctor, showrunner Chris Chibnall, new cast member John Bishop and more.
The Great North, noon: The Fox animated series brings creators and producers and cast members including Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, and Alanis Morissette for a Q&A, clips, and news on what’s ahead in the third season.
Bob’s Burgers, 3 p.m.: Another Fox animated series brings FOX series brings cast members including H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, and Dan Mintz to answer questions from a few fans, show some never-before-seen clips, and generally entertain you with their stories.
